Arco de Tajao
The Arco de Tajao is an impressive natural formation located near the fishing village of Tajao, in the municipality of Arico, in southern Tenerife. This stone arch, also known as “Arco de Bijagua” or “Arco de La Linde”, was formed around 200,000 years ago due to erosion by water and wind on volcanic tuff, specifically a local variety called “losa chasnera”.
Access: From the TF-1 motorway, take exit 46 toward Tajao. About 300 meters in, there’s an open area where you can park. From there, a 2-minute walk takes you to the arch.

- Grilled cheese with mojo: A great way to start your meal.
Mount Teide
Teide is much more than a mountain: it is the natural symbol of Tenerife and all the Canary Islands. At 3,718 meters, it is the highest peak in Spain and one of the most impressive volcanoes in the world. For locals, it represents identity, pride, and a deep connection with nature. Its silhouette dominates the island, and its surroundings, the Teide National Park, is a unique volcanic landscape and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Teide Cable Car
Getting to the Teide Cable Car is quite easy by car from anywhere on the island, although there is no direct public transport to the base station.
The Teide cable car is one of the most accessible and spectacular ways to get close to the volcano’s summit. It takes you from 2,356 meters up to 3,555 meters in just a few minutes, offering breathtaking views of the park and, on clear days, several nearby islands.
Diving in Tajao
Tajao is an ideal spot for certified divers with their own equipment who are looking for an authentic, volcanic environment with calm conditions and good visibility. The waters, with cool temperatures (18–22 ºC), offer a seabed made of rocky walls, caves, and volcanic formations inhabited by schools of fish, octopuses, moray eels, rays, and groupers. Access is usually from the coast or by small boats. It’s important to consider the currents and sea conditions, which may vary depending on the season—spring and autumn being the most stable.
Nearby dive centers and what you can see
- El Médano (15–20 min by car): The main area with several dive centers offering guided dives, courses, and equipment rental. You’ll explore volcanic walls, underwater caves, and rich marine life including angel sharks, schools of fish, octopuses, and moray eels.
- Abades and El Porís de Abona: Nearby areas with less crowded dive spots, perfect for those seeking peace and pure nature.
These centers are prepared for all skill levels and offer everything from recreational dives to advanced courses. They also often organize boat trips to deeper, protected areas.
